PINAIIMBESTIGAHAN sa Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ang hindi umano pagsunod ng Department of Education sa kautusan hinggil sa paggamit ng kawayan para sa mga desk at fur-niture requirements sa mga pampublikong paaralan.

Inihain ni Ilocos Sur 1st District Rep. Deogracias Victor Savellano ang House Resolution 1388 para busisiin ang hindi pagtugon ng DepEd sa Executive Order 879 na ipinalabas noong May 14, 2010.

Alinsunod sa kautusan, inoobliga ang ahensiya na gamitin ang kawayan para sa 25 porsiyento ng mga desk at iba pang furniture sa mga public elementary at secondary schools.

“Executive Order 879 has stated that the planting and the use of bamboo will significantly con-tribute to the mitigation of climate change and disaster management considering its carbon cap-ture and cheaper reforestation cost,” pahayag ni Savellano sa kanyang resolusyon.

Binigyang-diin din ng kongresista sa resolusyon ang adbokasiya para sa paggamit ng green products at pag-iwas sa mga plastic, metal at iba pang materyales.

Nakapagbibigay rin ng karagdagang trabaho at oportunidad sa mga naninirahan sa rural areas ang paggamit ng kawayan sa iba’t ibang uri ng furniture.

“According to reports and dialogues with the DepEd’s officials, it seems that the department has not been meeting its directed instruction to use bamboo for at least 25 percent of the desk and other furniture requirements of public elementary and secondary schools,” diin pa ng kongresista sa resolution.

Ipinaalala pa ng mambabatas na sa panahon na ito ay kailangan ng promosyon ng product de-velopment at market access sa bamboo products.
