HIGHER PAY FOR DAY CARE WORKERS SOUGHT
MAGDALO Partylist Rep. Manuel Cabochan III has filed a bill that seeks to institutionalize pre-school education by increasing the monthly compensation of day care workers.
In pushing for House Bill 2253 or the proposed Pre-School Education Development Act, Cabochan said day care centers were established in every barangay in recognition of the importance of early education.
“Pre-school education is the first exercise in which children are separated from the comfort and security of their parents, therefore it has to be a second home to the child; a place which one has enough material to construct the building blocks of his/her intellect, abilities and character,” he said in his explanatory note.
The lawmaker said there is a need to standardize the quality and mode of teaching in day care centers.
Under the bill, preschool teachers will be mandated to continuously undergo trainings to improve their skills and teaching techniques.
Public preschool teachers shall receive a monthly salary based on the compensation of public school teachers under the Salary Standardization Law.
The lawmaker said the bill will help improve the early development of children.
