GROUPS COLLABORATE TO CREATE SAFER DIGITAL SPACE FOR CHILDREN

/ 20 March 2023

CHILD Rights Coalition Asia, ChildFund Korea and ChildFund Philippines partnered with TikTok Asia Pacific for a two-part dialogue and consultation aimed at creating a safe, inclusive and friendly digital space for children.

The goal of the dialogue among young people, child rights groups, and TikTok is to learn more about how children feel about using online platforms and the problems they run into like issues on personal privacy, false or harmful information, and even sexual abuse and exploitation.

“The digital space is very dynamic and quickly evolving, so it demands a lot from us to be open to learn new things, but at the same time it also challenges us to hold on to the principles of transparency, solidarity, and of course kindness to each other because these are also the principles that we want to be able to share to our children,” CRC Asia’s Regional Executive Director Amihan Abueva said.

During the dialogue, the youth panelists discussed how to make data privacy policies more imaginative and child-friendly.

They suggested teaching parents about digital literacy as well as incorporating it into the curricula for the younger generation.

CRC Asia is a network of child rights organizations working together for the fulfillment of child rights.
