GOV’T URGED TO EXTEND TAX RELIEF TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS
A FEDERATION of private schools called on the government to extend tax relief to private schools to help ease the impact of the pandemic on educational institutions.
Eleazardo Kasilag, president of the Federation of Associations of Private Schools Administrators, said tax relief should be extended to all private schools in the country.
“We hardly could cover the pay for our teachers as well as the bill for power, water, etc.,” Kasilag said.
“We appeal to the national government to extend what has been started in Antipolo to all the local government units in the Philippines,” he added.
The local government of Antipolo City offered tax relief to private schools in the city this year.
“In Marikina, this is first enjoyed since private schools are tax exempt if the schools are registered with SEC as non stock non profit and accredited with the Department of Education with Ordinance No. 017, s of 2010,” the FAPSA head said.
He added that the government should help private schools during this pandemic.
“We were on lockdown since March of 2020 and parents are paying promissory notes. Our student population dwindled considerably and this is what we have right now from what is left of our enrollment since both teachers and students moved out to public schools,” Kasilag said.
