GOV’T AGENCIES URGED TO FAST TRACK RELEASE OF 2023 PBB FOR DEPED TEACHERS

/ 20 August 2025

HOUSE Deputy Minority Leader and ACT Teachers Representative Antonio Tinio called on government agencies to expedite the release of the 2023 Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) for Department of Education teachers, following confirmation from the Department of Budget and Management that the incentive will finally be granted.

During Tinio’s interpellation of the Development Budget Coordination Committee, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman confirmed that DepEd personnel will receive the long-delayed bonus covering their 2023 performance.

The development follows persistent lobbying from teachers’ groups and progressive lawmakers pushing for its immediate release.

“Our relentless efforts inside and outside Congress, alongside our teachers, have borne fruit. The decision was positive, and the distribution of the 2023 PBB for DepEd teachers and employees will proceed,” Tinio said.

Despite DBM’s approval, Tinio pointed out that other government offices still need to sign off on the implementation, which could cause further delays.

“We urge all concerned agencies to expedite the processing and release of this bonus. Our teachers and government employees have been waiting far too long for what is rightfully theirs. They need this financial assistance now, especially with the continued rise in the cost of living,” Tinio stressed.

He emphasized that the PBB is not just financial aid but recognition of the dedication of government workers, especially teachers who serve despite low pay and difficult working conditions.

“This victory is a testament to the power of collective action and sustained advocacy. We will continue to monitor the implementation to ensure every qualified government employee receives their due bonus without further delay,” he added.
