GLOBE TELECOM LAUNCHES eMODULES ON CYBER RISKS

/ 9 October 2020

RECOGNIZING the various risks in the digital world, network giant Globe Telecom launched the first of a series of eModules that aims to educate and promote proper online behavior among students and teachers.

Globe’s Digital Insight eModules were created to familiarize learners and teachers with the internet landscape in the Philippines. The eModules provide information on imminent threats and risks like cyberattacks and identity theft.

The eModules may also be used by teachers as part of the values education subject, or by parents, to enable them to guide their children in identifying, addressing and avoiding the dangers in the virtual world.

The eModules are based on Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program workshops launched in 2016 to educate students on digital citizenship and responsible use of technology. DTP was integrated by the Department of Education in the K-12 curriculum to bolster DepEd’s modules on digital literacy.

Globe converted the traditional DTP workshop modules into smaller instructional materials that are easily accessible online to reach more educators, parents and students. It also added more DTP content to make it more applicable under the new normal.

There are five lessons under the Digital Insight eModule — internet addiction, digital safety, anti-piracy, creating more secure accounts and understanding terms and conditions and cyberbullying.

The lessons are presented in 3-5 minute shareable videos that are easy to understand. The videos are available at Globe DTP and the DepEd Commons websites as well as the Globe Bridging Communities Facebook Page.

Globe also converted the lessons into one virtual reality video to give students a more immersive learning experience.

The eModules were created in partnership with DepEd, Plan International Philippines, and UNICEF’s SaferKidsPH.

“As young people spend more time online, they are now more vulnerable to online threats which include online abuse, exploitation and identity theft. As an enabler of the #OneDigitalNation, we help the youth and online netizens increase awareness on online threats to make their online experience safe and secure. Educating our netizens is especially crucial at this time when Filipinos are expected to increase their internet usage, we hope to see more responsible digital citizens,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability Officer and SVP for Corporate Communications.
