GADGETS NOT A MUST IN DISTANCE LEARNING — DEPED EXEC

/ 10 September 2020

STUDENTS are not required to purchase gadgets such as laptops or cellphones in order to participate in distance learning, the Department of Education Region 4A said.

DepEd 4A Regional Director Wilfredo Cabral explained that the education department will also use other learning methods that do not require electronic gadgets or internet access.

“There is no need to buy a gadget, and those who do not have a gadget should not worry because we have a modality that do not need this,” Cabral said.

He said that DepEd 4A will use modular distance learning where students will be given printed modules or lessons which will be delivered by teachers to their respective homes.

Aside from the modules, he added, they will also use television and radio-based instruction where students can watch or listen to their lessons.

Cabral gave assurances that DepEd 4A has enough funds for the needed equipment for its more than 3 million learners who enrolled this year.

He said that the agency continues to coordinate with the local government to address other needs of schools and students in the region.
