FORMER SENATOR STRESSES NEED TO ENHANCE FREE COLLEGE LAW

/ 2 March 2025

FORMER Senator Bam Aquino stressed the need to improve the implementation of the Free College Law, particularly by providing additional financial support to students.

Aquino emphasized the importance of sufficient funding for the “libreng pabaon” or free allowance, which is included in the law.

The goal is to help cover students’ daily expenses, such as food, transportation, and internet costs, easing the financial burden on families.

“The free allowance must be funded so that students can have support for their daily needs. Of course, it’s important that this is partnered not just with free education, but also with guaranteed employment after graduation,” Aquino said.

His words resonated deeply with the community, as the rising cost of living continues to make it difficult for many families to provide for their children’s educational needs.

Aquino’s proposal aligns with his broader vision of strengthening the educational system in the country. He argued that extending financial aid to students through monthly allowances would significantly help them manage daily expenses. This would also reduce the burden on Filipino families who struggle to provide for the essentials needed for students to pursue their education.
