MORE Filipinos were encouraged to apply to Taiwan’s Foreign English Teacher Program next year.

Taipei Economic and Cultural Office Representative Peiyung Hsu said that 77 English teachers and 11 teaching assistants from the Philippines were selected from 6,000 applicants this year.

“We welcome more teachers to join the project next year,” Hsu said.

The English Teacher Program was initiated by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education to recruit foreign English teachers and create more opportunities for Taiwanese students to learn English in schools.

The monthly salary for English teachers under the program starts at NT$62,720 (about P115,122.25), with travel subsidy, health insurance and other benefits.

The salary will be based on the teacher’s highest educational level and years of full-time teaching experience.

To qualify, applicants must be proficient English speakers with a bachelor’s degree or higher and must have no criminal record. State-issued teaching license or credential is not required.
