FAPSA: GOV’T SHOULD PAY UNPAID TUITION OF STUDENTS WHO TRANSFER TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS

/ 5 July 2021

THE FEDERATION of Associations of Private Schools Administrators wants the government to pay the unpaid tuition of students who transfer to public schools.

“The charge is only for the unpaid tuition fees. It is not the entire amount of tuition fee,” Eleazardo Kasilag, FAPSA president, said in a statement.

He added that private schools need to be rescued from the dire impact of the pandemic.

He noted that the government has the constitutional duty to educate its citizens as well as to protect and promote education.

“Because of that, FAPSA can charge the government the unpaid tuition fees incurred by students who are leaving the private schools for the public schools. Malacañang has discretionary fund and just as the typhoon victims are apportioned budget, distressed private schools can also be helped. FAPSA needs it ASAP for our members who are disappointed,” Kasilag said.

“When OFWs experienced problems in their work abroad, the government steps in, even pays the employer of any account of our good kababayans and shoulders airfare. FAPSA appeals that same gesture be extended to the suffering private school administrators to ease our burden. After all, this is also the government’s responsibility,” he added.

Kasilag appealed to DepEd to support his group.

“DepEd can intercede in our behalf because they know our situation and they have the records of all of us closing shop. Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Partnership, Atty. Tonisito Umali can speak on our behalf,” he added.

“It is our desire to be rescued and as final alternative, if all things do not add up, FAPSA is hell-bent on entering politics as a partylist group as clamored by members who felt alienated. This may be a long shot but it is sure to hit the target,” he added.
