EX-SENATOR PUSHES FOR MORE FUNDS FOR SUCs, TEACHER SALARY HIKES

/ 13 May 2025

FORMET  Senator Bam Aquino has reiterated the need for increased funding for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and higher salaries for educators, along with continued support for free college education.

Aquino emphasized the importance of expanded resources for SUCs — such as additional classrooms and laboratories — to accommodate the growing number of students benefiting from the free college law he championed during his Senate term.

He noted that the surge in college enrollees due to the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, which he principally authored, requires significant investments in infrastructure and quality learning environments.

Aquino also stressed the need for stronger support for Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) through the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), along with expanded scholarships for private school students who need government aid.

According to recent data, millions of Filipino students have already benefited from the free college program since it was implemented seven years ago.
