EX-LAWMAKER URGES GOVERNMENT TO INTENSIFY EFFORTS AGAINST CHILD EXPLOITATION
FORMER Senator Kiko Pangilinan urged the government to intensify efforts to prevent crimes against children and ensure their protection.
Pangilinan voiced his concern after the Philippine National Police recorded 18,089 cases of child abuse related to sexual exploitation and rape in 2024.
“Every child has the right to grow up without fear of abuse. During National Awareness Week for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation, let us unite to fight for the safety and dignity of our youth,” Pangilinan emphasized.
He stressed the need for stronger government measures to protect children from abuse and ensure that those responsible for these heinous acts are held accountable.
“We must ensure that children are protected from any form of abuse, providing them with adequate support, including counseling, healthcare, and legal assistance, so they can receive justice,” he said.
The former senator also encouraged the public to report cases of child sexual abuse in their communities to authorities.
“Every tear shed by an abused child is a cry for justice. Let’s unite and listen to their cries. If you see something wrong, speak up. Let’s be the voice of children who can’t speak for themselves,” he said.
During his tenure as senator, Pangilinan criticized online media platforms for failing to swiftly remove instances of sexual abuse and exploitation.
“Part of prevention is immediate takedown because it prevents the spread and protects billions from accessing private information,” he said.
