EDUCATOR FATALLY SHOT IN CLASSROOM: TRAGIC INCIDENT IN LEYTE SCHOOL
A TEACHER tragically lost her life inside a classroom in the town of Matalom, Leyte, after being shot by her husband on the morning of October 22, 2025, police from the Regional Office 8 confirmed.
The victim, identified as “Ellen,” 39, was working at Agbanga Elementary School in Barangay Agbanga. Her husband, 49‑year‑old “Lino,” unemployed and residing in Barangay Caridad Sur, Matalom, was alleged to have followed her into the classroom and shot her multiple times without warning, according to initial findings.
The shooting took place around 11:05 a.m. at a room being used by a co‑teacher. Pursued by her assailant, the teacher reportedly ran into the classroom for protection — but was still struck by gunfire and died at the scene.
After the incident, the suspect fled in a white Suzuki minivan toward Matalom proper. Local police personnel promptly responded and initiated a hot pursuit, with checkpoints set up in surrounding areas to aid in his capture.
Meanwhile, the municipal health officer has been asked to conduct the post‑mortem examination, and the forensic unit from Baybay City is processing the scene.
This marks the second violent attack inside a school campus in Leyte this month, following a previous shooting in Tanauan where a male teacher wounded his wife inside the school.
