EDCOM CITES IMPORTANCE OF ADEQUATE CLASSROOM FACILITIES ON STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT
THE Second Congressional Commission on Education stressed the importance of essential resources, such as adequate classroom facilities and up-to-date learning materials, on student engagement and achievement.
Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara previously stated that the President’s marching order is to raise the quality of education through local and international assessments.
The Commission also highlighted the roles of local government, the Schools Division, and the community in providing schools with the necessary support to improve learning outcomes.
Despite these efforts, the Commission noted that schools still face resource constraints.
They emphasized that, with limited School funding, access to technology for learning remains a challenge.
“We need to review how we compute the School MOOE. It needs to accurately reflect the needs on the ground and incorporate a sound spending strategy from school leaders,” said EDCOM 2 Co-Chairperson Senator Sherwin Gatchalian.
“Of course, we want a higher MOOE, but what we see here today is that if principals allocate it towards learner development and direct learning programs, the effects are positive,” he added.
