THE SECOND Congressional Commission on Education or EDCOM 2 created a partnership with De La Salle University, aiming to tackle 10 key education issues around basic education, higher education, and teacher education and development.

“De La Salle University is renowned for its capacity for research, and we appreciate their commitment to elevating the quality of the nation’s education sector,” EDCOM 2 Executive Director Dr. Karol Mark Yee said.

The partnership covers a part of EDCOM 2’s agenda for 100 research questions and studies for the next three years to inform the Commission’s policy recommendations.

Yee confirmed 41 studies will be covered by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies, the research arm of the Commission, while 59 will be handled by partner universities including De La Salle University.

One of the studies seeks to discover readily-available tech-mediated learning resources that can be adopted for use in instructional delivery and seeks to inventorize tech-based resources for basic education.

Another area of concern in basic education involves bullying, seeking to review school-based bullying in the Philippines, as well as predictors of negative social experiences in schools.

This is in light of Programme for International Assessment or PISA findings which indicate learners have a very high incidence of bullying in Philippine schools.

The partnership will also tackle issues related to teacher education and development, with an analysis of social and economic outcomes of teacher education programs, as well as a review of professional development programs for teachers.

“We appreciate DLSU’s unwavering commitment to education reform and this signifies their dedication to provide relevant and responsive scholarship. This collaboration is a productive step forward in data-driven policy-making,” Yee said.
