EDCOM 2 CO-CHAIR HAILS PRC-CHED AGREEMENT TO ALIGN LICENSURE EXAM WITH TEACHER EDUCATION CURRICULUM
SECOND Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2) Co-Chairman and Pasig City Representative Roman Romulo praised the recent agreement between the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to align the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) with the teacher education curriculum, starting in September 2025.
The agreement was formalized through a joint memorandum circular signed in the presence of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace.
The signing follows the President’s directive issued on March 4 during the presentation of EDCOM 2’s Year Two Report.
During the meeting, President Marcos instructed CHED and PRC to immediately address the misalignment between teacher education and licensure exams, while Congress works on amending Republic Act 7836, also known as the Teacher Professionalization Act of 2024.
Romulo, who also chairs the House Committee on Basic Education, emphasized that quality education relies heavily on teachers who truly understand the subjects they teach.
“For us to achieve quality education, teachers must have a deep understanding of the content they deliver,” he said.
“Aligning the LEPT with the teacher education curriculum ensures that our future educators are not only qualified but also knowledgeable in their respective fields,” he added.
The move is seen as a critical step toward strengthening the foundation of the country’s education system and ensuring that teaching standards are both relevant and responsive to the needs of Filipino learners.
