/ 8 September 2024

THE DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development has started distributing the payout for the beneficiaries of Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program in Metro Manila.

DSWD Spokesperson Irene Dumlao said the beneficiaries are 5,220 college students who served as tutors and some 1,084 Youth Development Workers, parents and guardians of the elementary school students in the National Capital Region.

“The amount that the college students will receive for the 20 reading and parenting sessions was based on the prevailing minimum wage rate in the NCR,” said Dumlao.

Dumlao is the assistant secretary for Disaster Response and Management Group.

The student teachers will get the amount equivalent to the NCR’s stipulated minimum wage for 20 days.

Meanwhile, some 40,676 parents and guardians of struggling and non-reader elementary students will get cash-for-work, amounting to P235 per day for attending the 20 Nanay-Tatay teacher sessions.

Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program is the reformatted educational assistance program of the DSWD that creates an ecosystem of learning by training college students from low-income families who are in difficult situations to become tutors and YDWs.
