DSWD EYES EVACUATION CENTER PER MUNICIPALITY
THE DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development is eyeing the establishment of an evacuation center in every municipality to avoid class interruptions when calamities strike.
Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo discussed this with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Karding.
“Ang isa pang hinihingi namin, sir… We really need to have an evacuation center in every municipality, lalo na po ‘yung mga typhoon- at flood-prone areas,” Tulfo said.
“Kasi ‘pag maganda na ang panahon, may araw na, nandu’n pa rin ang mga evacuees dahil nasira ang bahay nila. So, ‘yung mga estudyante magsisiksikan sa ibang classrooms,” he added.
Typhoon Karding forced the evacuation of more than 19,000 families on Sunday and Monday.
Meanwhile, the Department of Education has yet to release the number of schools which were used as evacuation centers after the typhoon hit the country.
