DPWH RUSHES REPAIR OF DAMAGED SCHOOLS
THE DEPARTMENT of Public Works and Highways is rushing to finish the repair of schools damaged by natural calamities before the opening of classes in August.
“There had been areas affected by damaged school buildings because of typhoons and calamities, and we have to repair them immediately before the start of the school year,” DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said.
“This was presented by Education Secretary Vice President Sara Duterte and actually may mga backlog na school building programs because of the requirement na face to face classes,” he added.
Bonoan said President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. also directed him to expedite the construction of new school buildings.
The DPWH plans to build modular school buildings to speed up the construction.
Modular-type buildings are pre-fabricated that only needs to be assembled.
“Ang instruction po ni Presidente sa akin kahapon is look up other innovative structures na puwedeng gamitin, puwedeng modular type of school building para mas mapabilis ‘yung pagpapatayo ng school buildings especially sa mga calamity-prone areas in the eastern seaboard,” Bonoan said.
“This will be more resilient actually sa mga typhoon areas,” he added.
