DOST BACKS ADAMSON’S STUDY ON COST-EFFICIENT TABLETS FOR STROKE PATIENTS
THE DEPARTMENT of Science and Technology’s Philippine Council for Health Research and Development supported the project of Adamson University to formulate safe, effective, and cost-efficient tablets for stroke patients.
The two-year project is led by Dr. Gerard de Guzman in collaboration with Compact Pharmaceuticals Inc.
DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Peña said the study, “Formulation, Quality Control and Immediate-Release Tablets of Fixed-Dose Combinations of Aspirins and Cilostazol,”
aims to produce tablet formulations of a fixed-dose combination of cilostazol and aspirin.
“Once completed, the project could potentially provide patients suffering from stroke, thromboembolic disorders, and ischemic heart disease, safe, compatible, stable, and effective generic medications that are cheaper than the counterpart innovator products of each drug available as separate tablet formulations,” he explained.
“The optimized fixed-dose formulation is also expected to minimize adverse drug reactions, reduce anticipated medication errors associated with dispensing and enhance dosage compliance,” he said.
The project is funded and monitored by the Collaborative Research and Development to Leverage Philippine Economy Program of the Science for Chance Program of the PCHRD.
