DOLE HOLDS CAMPAIGN AGAINST CHILD LABOR

/ 26 September 2024

AROUND a hundred former child laborers and their guardians took part in an awareness campaign against child labor in Calabarzon, conducted by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the National Council Against Child Labor.

The event marked the council’s fifth anniversary of institutionalization and aimed to enhance government efforts to prevent, reduce, and eliminate child labor in all its forms.

DOLE Assistant Secretary Amuerfina Reyes emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving a child labor-free Philippines.

“We hope to see a day when child labor is no longer an issue in our country, and every child has the opportunity to study, live well, and have a bright future,” Reyes said during the event on September 21.

Participants received free medical services, massage therapy, a pizza-making skills demonstration, and a showcase of industrial Internet of Things and 3D printing technologies.

Medical services included laboratory tests, chest x-rays, HIV screening and counseling, oral prophylaxis, tooth extraction, fluoride varnish, and dental checkups. Interactive activities like face painting, games, a puppet show, and a photo booth were also part of the event.

Additionally, parents and guardians received livelihood packages through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program, while the former child laborers were provided with school supplies and other materials through Project Angel Tree.
