THE DEPARTMENT of Education has welcomed the appointment of Senator Sonny Angara as its new Secretary.
THE DEPARTMENT of Education has welcomed the appointment of Senator Sonny Angara as its new Secretary.
“We welcome Senator Juan Edgardo ‘Sonny’ Angara to the Department of Education (DepEd),” the agency said in a prepared statement.
“The DepEd community looks forward to working with the new leadership as we continue our relentless pursuit towards improving the quality of Basic Education in the country,” it added.
On July 2, the Presidential Communications Office announced that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is all set to appoint Angara as the next DepEd chief.
“Sonny has agreed to take on the brief of the Department of Education,” it said.
Angara will replace Vice President Sara Duterte-Caprio, who resigned as Education Secretary last June 19. Her resignation will take effect on July 19.
The senator said that he is “deeply honored and grateful” to the President for his trust.
“This significant responsibility is one l accept with humility and a profound sense of duty… I am eager to collaborate with President Marcos and the entire administration in serving our students, supporting our teachers, and enhancing the overall quality of education in our country,” Angara said.
