SENATOR Francis “Chiz” Escudero urged the Department of Education to carefully study its plan to integrate mandatory scouting in the basic education curriculum.

Escudero warned that this might go against the constitution since the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts organizations are private groups.

“May gustong sumali, walang problema pero kung mandatory baka iba na ang usapin. Sana tingnan nila ang anggulong ito para makatiyak na hindi lalabag sa saligang batas,” he said in a radio interview.

Earlier, DepEd Secretary and Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio said they are planning to integrate mandatory scouting in the basic education curriculum.

Duterte-Carpio said this will help teach values and discipline to students.
