ACT Teachers Party-List Rep. France Castro on Sunday called for the urgent unloading of administrative and non-education tasks from teachers.

Castro emphasized the need to prioritize the core responsibilities of educators and alleviate their workload, enabling them to focus on delivering quality education to their students.

Recognizing the multifaceted roles teachers play within the education system, Castro highlighted the burden that administrative and non-education tasks placed on educators.

These tasks, including paperwork, meetings, and extra-curricular activities, often detract from the time and energy teachers can devote to their primary duty of teaching and facilitating student learning.

Castro stressed that unloading teachers from these additional responsibilities is essential for the enhancement of the Philippine education system.

By removing their administrative burden, teachers can dedicate more time and effort to lesson planning, classroom instruction, and student support, ultimately improving the quality of education.

“What we need now is to hire more administrative and more education support staff in schools so that these tasks can be removed from teachers but at the same time not overwork the current administrative staff,” Castro said.

“School clustering of administrative and/ or education support tasks is not the way to go. We should hire registrars, accounting clerks, librarians, custodians, and utility workers and not pass them to teachers,” she added.

The solon also emphasized that unloading teachers’ tasks is not only beneficial to educators but also to students.

“By allowing teachers to focus on their core teaching responsibilities, students will benefit from more engaging and effective classroom experiences, leading to better academic performance and overall development,” she said.

In advocating for the unloading of administrative and non-education tasks, Castro called on the Department of Education and relevant education authorities to review existing policies and provide necessary support to ensure that teachers are freed from excessive administrative work.
