THE DEPARTMENT of Education is set to launch the “decongested” K to 10 curriculum that will be implemented in School Year 2024-2025, DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Michael Poa said Tuesday.
“Sa K to 10 review, since tapos na tayo do’n, ang feedback ng experts natin ay highly congested kasi ‘yung current K to 10 natin. Ibig sabihin, napakaraming kailangang matutunan ng learners na learning competencies within a school year. Napakarami ring kailangan ituro ng mga guro within a school year, which makes mastery of these subjects very difficult,” he said in a Palace briefing.
Poa said the new curriculum for Kinder to Grade 10 will focus on math, science, english, reading, and values formation.
The review of the K to 10 curriculum started in April. Members of the academe and education stakeholders were encouraged to give feedback on the shaping papers and revised curriculum guides.
“That’s why it took us time, we had to consider all the comments for the final tweaks. Now we’re done, we will be launching it in a few weeks time,” Poa said.
The review of the K to 12 curriculum is ongoing.
“Ang promise ng K to 12 is that magiging employable ‘yung mga learners, pero we have to admit na hindi ‘yan nangyayari sa ngayon,” Poa said.
Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte earlier said that the K to 12 curriculum will be revised in a bid to produce more “competent, job-ready, active, and responsible” graduates.
