DEPED: OVER P1.2-B NEEDED TO REPAIR QUICK-HIT SCHOOLS
OVER P1.2 billion is needed to repair the damages on school caused by the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit Northern Luzon last July 27.
Around 226 schools were damaged out of 9,539 which were affected, according to the Department of Education.
Based on the latest information released by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service information, the damaged schools were from Cordillera Administrative Region with 132, Ilocos Region (49), Cagayan Valley Region (25), Central Luzon Region (18), and a school respectively from Calabarzon Region and National Capital Region.
Of the schools, 422 classrooms were totally damaged while 636 classrooms were partially damaged.
The department’s Education Facilities Division mobilized engineers from Region 2 will assist CAR and Region 1 with school structural assessments.
DepEd Central Office representatives also attended a cluster meeting to discuss the ongoing response operations and reporting arrangements.
The National Education Cluster Partners conducted rapid assessment of damages and immediate needs and determined regions or divisions needing Psychological First Aid.
