DEPED LAUNCHES TEACHING PROGRAMS VIA TELEVISION

/ 12 August 2020

AS PART of the shift to the new normal, DepEd launched its teaching programs which will be aired  on various TV channels from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The programs will be aired on GMA Affordabox, PTV 4, IBC 13 and Solar Learning Channels.

The programs will have specific time slots for each grade level, starting from kinder to senior high school.

TV is just one of the platforms which will be used by schools under the new normal.

In a press briefing on Monday, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said other teaching platforms include modules, radio and print.

Briones added that Isla Puting Bato and Sarangani which are inhabited mostly by Indigenous People have been using radio as a teaching tool.

Radio has been an instrument for communication for  decades now, she added.

DepEd Director IV of Information and Communications Technology Services Abraham Abanil said the education department has partnered with the said television channels and has already trained teacher-broadcasters for the educational shows.

Abanil added that eight televison channels will deliver 1,000 episodes for each quarter to cover the most essential learning competencies for the revised curriculum.

Twenty-three teacher-broadcasters have been trained to conduct the video lessons.

Audio and video lectures will be available at the DepEd Commons for free and could be downloaded without  cost.

DepEd Commons is an online platform for public school teachers to support distance learning modalities which can be accessed at https://commons.deped.gov.ph.
