DEPED INTRODUCES EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS PROGRAM FOR TEACHERS
/ 25 October 2025
THE DEPARTMENT of Education–Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service has introduced an earthquake mitigation and preparedness certification program for schools called the M7X Ready Framework.
DepEd also announced the release of the Guidebook on Safer Learning Facilities.
In partnership with local government units (LGUs), DepEd has initiated efforts to strengthen education recovery to make it faster, more coordinated, and community-driven in the aftermath of disasters.
The joint initiative focuses on restoring safe learning spaces and ensuring that teachers and learners receive timely psychosocial support and school rehabilitation assistance.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that LGU cooperation is a critical step in ensuring the safety of learners and teachers, as well as the continuity of learning at the local level—an effort also highlighted by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during his recent visits to calamity-hit areas.
“Mahalaga sa atin na laging katuwang natin ang ating mga LGU sa paghahatid ng tulong at pag-asa sa ating mga kababayan. Sa bawat sakuna, kailangang sabay-sabay tayong bumangon—DepEd, LGUs, guro, at mga magulang,” Angara said.
DepEd reported that recent earthquakes have affected around 5,000 schools across multiple regions, underscoring the importance of preparedness and local coordination.
The Department continues to implement awareness campaigns and simulation drills to guide teachers and learners on what to do during emergencies, while enhancing contingency plans and capacity-building programs in schools.
