DEPED INKS PARTNERSHIP WITH DOTr, UK FOR ACCESSIBLE TRANSPORTATION
THE DEPARTMENT of Education has partnered with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office to provide more accessible and sustainable transportation options for learners.
DepEd said the collaboration focuses on the 14-hectare DepEd Complex in Taguig City, which it envisions transforming into an Education City— a future-ready, climate-resilient, and sustainably designed mixed-use space featuring green commercial and residential buildings, open spaces, transit hubs, training and MICE facilities, and teacher accommodations.
“This partnership ensures that our learners and educators will directly benefit from a well-planned, green, and safe environment that ultimately supports public education objectives,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said.
The initiative will be implemented through the Senate-DepEd Transit-Oriented Development Project, which aims to create well-connected, accessible communities around major rail corridors—making it easier for students and residents to live, learn, work, and move within Metro Manila.
Beyond improved connectivity, the project is also expected to generate long-term revenue streams to help DepEd build more classrooms and advance digital learning in public schools.
