DEPED IMPLEMENTS FLEXIBLE WORK ARRANGEMENTS TO SUPPORT ENERGY CONSERVATION

/ 10 March 2026

THE DEPARTMENT of Education has directed the strict implementation of energy conservation protocols and flexible work arrangements in response to rising fuel costs linked to geopolitical tensions.

In a memorandum dated March 8, 2026, DepEd said the measures aim to reduce the energy consumption of government operations and optimize the use of public resources.

The policy will take effect on March 9, 2026 and will remain in force until it is lifted or earlier revoked by the Office of the President.

Under the flexible work arrangement, DepEd offices will adopt a four-day onsite work schedule from Monday to Thursday.

In accordance with Memorandum Circular No. 114, series of 2026, Friday will be designated as the common work-from-home (WFH) day for all covered personnel.

The memorandum states that the WFH arrangement will continue to apply to all non-teaching and related teaching personnel of the department, including Contract of Service (COS) and Job Order (JO) employees, in line with DepEd Order No. 004, series of 2025.

Meanwhile, teaching personnel will continue to follow their existing class schedules and school arrangements to ensure the uninterrupted conduct of classes and end-of-school-year activities.

The memorandum added that the flexible work setup will remain in effect until the President lifts the order
