THE DEPARTMENT of Education, through the Literacy Coordinating Council, honored local government units and non-government organizations in the 2022 National Literacy Awards for promoting and developing education through literacy.
The Kasama Kita sa Barangay Foundation, Inc. from Region I bagged the top award for its “Sustainable Literacy and Livelihood Program,” while the Ang Conrado & Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation, Inc. placed second for its “Bukas Kaalaman Program: Pagbasa at Pag-unawa Para sa Kaalaman at Kinabukasan.”
The FSUU-Urian Legal Assistance Program took the third prize for its program dubbed “Indigenous Peoples Legal Empowerment and Advancement Project.”
Sorsogon City won in the Independent Component City category; Butuan City in the Highly Urbanized City category; Bacnotan, La Union in the 1st to 3rd Class Municipality; and Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte in the 4th to 6th Class Municipality category.
DepEd Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Epimaco Densing III, Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction Ginna Gonong, and Pasig City Representative and LCC Member Roman Romulo led the awarding of the winners.
Also present during the event were Assistant Secretary for Curriculum and Instruction Alma Ruby Torio; Bureau of Learning Delivery Director Leila P. Areola; Bureau of Alternative Education Chief Education Program Specialist Roderick Corpuz; National Economic and Development Authority Director Girlie Grace Casimiro-Igtiben and Prof. Flora Arellano, National Executive Board Member of the Education Network.
