DEPED HAS NO HEALTH PROGRAM FOR TEACHERS — ACT

/ 17 September 2020

THE ALLIANCE of Concerned Teachers has deplored the inability of the  Department of Education to provide any program that would ensure the safety of teachers and employees amid the Covid19 pandemic.

“Walang kumprehensibong health program ang Department of Education upang tiyakin na ligtas ang ating mga teachers,” ACT Secretary-General Raymond Basilio said in a television interview.

“Nag-back to work po ‘yung ating mga teacher and employees since June 1, pero wala pong ginawang health screening. Hindi na-determine sino ang fit to work at sino ang hindi,” he added.

He warned that the rising number of Covid cases among teachers and employees might cause an outbreak when classes reopen on October 5.

Latest data showed that 340 teachers and 297 students have contracted the virus.

Basilio also slammed the call for ‘academic freeze’  and pushed for more funding for the Education department to meet the distance learning requirements.

“Kami naniniwala na may kapasidad ang pamahalaan, may kapasidad ang Department of Education na isulong ang dekalidad na edukasyon sa panahon pa man ng pandemya,” he said.

“Ang tanging nagiging hadlang para magawa ito ay ‘yung pagkakaroon ng sapat na alokasyon para maibigay ‘yung mga nararapat na modalities na ito,” he added.
