THE DEPARTMENT of Education said that it did not endorse imported learning materials advocating a position contrary to the official definition of Philippine territory.

It issued the statement after a parent reported the alleged inaccuracy of the depiction of Philippine territory in imported learning materials.

DepEd said it consistently advocated for the provision of accurate information to learners.

“Teaching historical and legal facts is one of the cornerstones of our approach to mold the beliefs, character, and love for the country of our learners,” it said.

The department called on individuals, entities and institutions procuring learning materials to ensure that these conform with scientifically proven principles or are within the context of Philippine history.

It called on education stakeholders to help equip learners with the right and precise knowledge.

“It is with great importance to carefully assess such learning resources, most especially with imported learning materials, as these may contain depictions or information that may not accurately reflect or worse, run counter to what the Philippines, as a nation, stand for on matters relating to the Philippine national territory, its historical accounts, and its people’s culture, customs, and traditions,” the DepEd said.
