DEPED CRACKS DOWN ON PRIVATE SCHOOLS WITH ALLEGED GHOST STUDENTS
THE Department of Education is investigating the alleged presence of ghost students in the Senior High School Voucher Program at 12 private schools across nine divisions.
DepEd is conducting a thorough investigation into personnel and officials who may be involved in this fraudulent activity, which could lead to the termination of a school’s participation in the Senior High School Voucher Program.
The Department stressed that it is taking swift action to preserve the integrity of its funds and program implementation.
“We take these allegations seriously. Any form of misuse of public funds intended for critical education programs will not be tolerated. This investigation is a necessary step to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable,” said Education Secretary Sonny Angara.
As part of its efforts, DepEd has initiated actions, including preparing to terminate the schools’ accreditation and gathering evidence against the individuals involved.
The Department is also considering potential legal measures against those found guilty, including administrative and criminal sanctions, in accordance with existing laws.
Meanwhile, DepEd assures the public that it will assist affected, legitimate students to ensure their education continues without disruption. The Department also reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening monitoring mechanisms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
