DEPED ASSURES SUPPORT FOR SCHOOLS, PERSONNEL AFFECTED BY TYPHOONS, FLOOD

/ 25 July 2025

THE DEPARTMENT of Education has assured support for teachers, personnel, and schools affected by recent typhoons and flooding.

This comes following the declaration of states of calamity in several parts of the country due to the combined impact of Tropical Depression Dante, Tropical Storm Emong, and the southwest monsoon (Habagat).

Education Secretary Sonny Angara joined President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and other Cabinet officials in a recent National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) meeting to coordinate disaster response and recovery efforts nationwide.

Angara said the President is concerned with ensuring both the continuity of education and the welfare of learners and education personnel affected by the calamities.

“Hindi po natin pababayaan ang ating mga paaralan, guro, at estudyante sa gitna ng kalamidad. Gagawin natin ang lahat para sila’y mabilis na makabangon at makapagpatuloy sa pagbibigay ng edukasyon,” Angara said.

For affected schools, DepEd’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) has begun releasing response funds to support urgent cleaning and clearing operations.

Schools have also been directed to activate contingency plans, safeguard learning materials and equipment, and coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management councils.
