COMELEC URGES FILIPINO YOUTH TO REGISTER AS SK VOTERS

21 December 2025

THE COMMISSION  on Elections  has urged young Filipinos to register as voters for the Sangguniang Kabataan polls in November next year.

In a news release on Friday, Comelec Chairman George Garcia noted that teenagers who are at least 14 years old can register as SK voters so long as they turn 15 years old on or before the youth polls set on Nov. 2, 2026.

“Those who are 14 years old now will turn 15 years old next year, therefore, they can already cast their votes for the SK elections,” he said at a Voters Education Program in Davao del Norte held on Thursday.

Garcia said he wants the youth to experience participating in an electoral exercise.

“It brings a different feeling, especially for the youth. It means you are now really part of the society. Indeed, you are now a true Filipino since each of you now has a voice,” he added.

The poll body said under Resolution 11177, eligible to register as SK voters are those at least 15 years but not more than 30 years of age, and residing in the barangay for at least six months on or before the Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

Meanwhile, based on the latest data of the Comelec, 223,282 applied to become SK voters from Oct. 20 to Dec. 14.

A total of 218,801 applications received are new registrants; 918 applications were for transfer from other city/municipality; 279 applications were for transfer within the same city/municipality; and 3,284 were correction of entries.

The voters’ registration period will conclude on May 18, 2026. (PNA)
