THE Commission on Elections plans to ditch the system of using schools as voting centers, saying malls are more convenient.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said that it is better to use malls than schools.

The poll body on Monday tapped 11 malls in Metro Manila, Albay and Cebu for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

The Comelec did not incur additional expenses in mall voting as the owners provided the space for free.

“Let’s abandon the schools as polling places. It’s high time that we find other places basta libre,” Garcia said.

“Maluwag ang malls samantalang sa isang eskuwelahan na pinuntahan natin, sa isang kuwarto, napakaliit. Ang liliit pa ng mga upuan ng mga bata,” the official added.
