CHILD TRAFFICKING REMAINS A SERIOUS THREAT IN THE COUNTRY – SENATOR
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian on Sunday said the successful rescue of 11 minors from suspected sex traffickers in Parañaque highlights the persistent and serious threat of child trafficking in the country.
In a statement, Gatchalian emphasized that despite the passage of the Expanded Anti-Trafficking Act of 2022, which strengthened the government’s efforts to combat various forms of trafficking, some criminals continue their illegal activities.
“We must make it clear to these criminals: Authorities will not stop until you are caught, imprisoned, and held accountable under the law! There is no safe haven for those who violate our laws,” Gatchalian stated.
The senator stressed the need to further enhance law enforcement capabilities to track down traffickers and bring them to justice.
He also highlighted the importance of educating children about the dangers of trafficking and how to protect themselves from exploitation.
Investigations are ongoing to hold those responsible accountable, while authorities work to provide assistance and rehabilitation to the rescued minors.
