THE Commission on Higher Education has ordered the dissolution of Senior High School in state universities and colleges and local universities and colleges.
In its memorandum on December 18 signed by CHED chairperson Prospero De Vera III, it said that engagement of SUCs and LUCs in basic education through Senior High School shall be limited to the K to 12 transition period which is from School Year 2016-2017 to SY 2020-2021 only.
“Considering the foregoing, SUC Presidents/OICs are directed to bring to their respective
SUC BOR/BOT the discontinuance of senior high school in SUCs as there is no longer legal basis to fund the same,” the memorandum read.
CHED also announced that students will no longer be eligible for the Department of Education’s Goverment Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education beneficiaries from SUCs/LUCs, except those who will be entering Grade 12 in SY 2023-2024 to finish their basic education.
Meanwhile, SUCs with laboratory school may still accept high school enrollees. However, students will no longer receive vouchers to subsidize their education.
CHED added that laboratory schools shall cap enrollment to 750 students.
