Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, chairman of the committee, instead asked the Commission on Higher Education to issue guidelines that will focus on the protection of the students.
During the hearing, CHED Executive Director Cinderella Filipina Benitez-Jaro said the agency has released a memorandum for all higher education institutions to develop policies in relation to the security of their campuses.
“May direksiyon na ang komisyon to develop a safety and healthy environment,” Benitez-Jaro said.
Escudero said they will defer action on the bill pending the issuance of a policy or a memorandum from CHED.
Senate Bill 1108 or the proposed Campus Safety and Security Act filed by Senator Juan Edgardo Angara mandates all higher education institutions and technical vocational institutions to ensure the safety and security of the academic community.
