DISMAYADO sina Senadora Pia Cayetano at Senador Joel Vilanueva sa mababang budget na inilaan ng Department of Budget and Management para sa state universities and colleges sa susunod na taon.

Sa budget hearing sa Senado, sinabi ni Cayetano na ang 2022 budget para sa SUCs na umaabot sa P71.19 billion ay higit na mababa kumpara sa P79.1 billion para ngayong taon.

“We are distraught that at a time like this, we are not supporting our higher education system,” pahayag ni Cayetano.

“We had hoped that this will be the best time to invest in higher education so that when the Covid is over, which we hope, there will be a new normal that we can go back, a normal, not exactly the same, the schools are ready. This kind of numbers, it’s very disappointing,” dagdag pa ng senadora.

Partikular ding tinukoy ni Cayetano ang kawalan ng probisyon para sa capital outlay sa University of the Philippines-PGH sa gitna ng patuloy na paglaban ng bansa sa Covid19 pandemic.

Kinatigan naman ni Villanueva ang pahayag ni Cayetano kasabay ng pagtiyak ng patuloy na suporta sa mga higher education institutions.

“I share your disappointment and it appears na parang hindi priority ang higher educational instutions. I hope we can do better,” pahayag ni Villanueva.
