ISINUSULONG ng mga kongresista mula sa Batangas ang panukalang kilalain ang Batangas State University bilang National Engineering University.

Ang House Bill 8596 o ang proposed Batangas State University Charter of 2021 ay inihain nina Representatives Vilma Santos-Recto, Elenita Milagros Ermita-Buhain, Raneo Abu, Ma. Theresa Collantes, Lianda Bolilia at Mario Vittorio Marino.

Sa kanilang explanatory note, binigyang-diin ng mga kongresista na sa loob ng 118 taon, mahaba ang patunay ng pagbibigay ng dekalidad at accessible na edukasyon at training sa Filipino youth ng BatStateU.

Simula nang ma-convert bilang state university, umabot na sa 200 topnotchers sa licensure examinations na karamihan ay sa engineering at iba pang top performing programs ang nagsipagtapos sa unibersidad.

Sa ngayon, ang unibersidad ay may 11 campus at 41,132 estudyante mula sa 35 lalawigan, lungsod at munisipalidad.

“The University also boasts of its 20 ASEAN Engineers in the faculty roster awarded by the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations. It is the highest among higher education institutions in the country,” pahayag ng mga kongresista.

Noong 2018, itinayo ng BatStateU ang Verde Island Passage Center for Oceanographic Research and Aquatic Life Sciences o ang VIP Corals at nagsimula nang gumawa ng collaborative research kasama ang iba pang researcher ng mga state university at college sa MIMAROPA at CALABARZON.

Tinagurian din ang unibersidad bilang isa sa model higher education institutions ng Commission on Higher Education noong 2016 bukod pa sa pagkakatalaga bilang Level 4 state university.

Dahil dito, iginiit ng mga kongresista na napapanahon nang ituring ang BatStateU bilang national engineering university.

“As the National Engineering University, Batangas State University will be more learner-centered, refor and transformation-focused, provide greater access, relevance and inclusivity with a broader geographical service areas and sectors of the society,” pahayag pa ng mga kongresista.
