ASEAN LEADERS RALLY BEHIND WORLDSKILLS MANILA 2025
AS THE WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 competition approaches, more leaders across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations are expressing strong support for the Philippines’ hosting of the event.
Officials from various ASEAN countries have affirmed their confidence in the Philippines’ capability to deliver a successful competition and emphasized the growing role of technical-vocational education and training (TVET) in developing a future-ready regional workforce.
“WorldSkills is more than just a competition. It’s a powerful platform that celebrates dedication, hard work, creativity, and lifelong learning,” said Hajah Norazlina Othman, Deputy CEO (Academic) of Brunei’s Institute of Technical Education. “It empowers youth to rise to their full potential and opens doors to global connections.”
Isabel De Lima, Director of Timor-Leste’s National Institute of Workforce Development, highlighted the regional value of the event: “This competition is vital for promoting skills mobility, cultural exchange, and ASEAN solidarity.”
Cambodia’s Deputy Director of Technical Vocational Education and Training, Chan Vichet, said: “Our participation in the WorldSkills ASEAN Competition is part of our national reform program. Collaboration with the ASEAN College is crucial to both our national development and regional success.”
Malaysia’s Director General of the Department of Skills Development, Zuleah Binti Darsong, added: “We believe in the Philippines’ ability to host an inspiring and successful event. Together, we are shaping a skilled and resilient ASEAN.”
WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025 will bring together hundreds of young professionals and experts from 10 ASEAN nations to compete in 32 skill areas such as Mechatronics, Web Development, Cooking, and Welding. The event also aims to foster innovation, highlight the value of skills, and strengthen workforce development partnerships.
This marks the second time the Philippines is hosting the competition since 1996. This year’s event underscores the country’s commitment to championing TVET and showcasing Filipino excellence and hospitality.
With preparations in full swing, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), together with ASEAN partners, is set to deliver a competition that not only celebrates technical excellence but also inspires a new generation of skilled workers.
