APPROVAL OF PSHS ACT TO EXPAND ACCESS TO STEM EDUCATION, SAYS GATCHALIAN
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian welcomed the Senate’s third reading approval of the Expanded Philippine Science High School System (PSHS) Act, which he co-authored and co-sponsored.
The proposed measure seeks to formally establish the PSHS System under the administrative supervision of the Department of Science and Technology.
It mandates the establishment of at least two PSHS campuses in each administrative region, except the National Capital Region where the PSHS main campus is located. No province, however, shall have more than one PSHS campus.
Gatchalian emphasized that the measure would provide more students with access to quality education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
According to the Second Congressional Commission on Education’s Year Two Report, many qualified students were unable to enroll in PSHS in recent years due to limited slots.
“Sa pagpapalawig natin ng PSHS System, maaabot natin ang mas maraming mag-aaral at mabibigyan sila ng pagkakataong makatanggap ng dekalidad na edukasyon pagdating sa STEM,” said Gatchalian.
