HINIMOK ng aktres na si Liza Soberano ang Senado na ipasa na ang ‘End Child Rape’ bill na nagsusulong na itaas ang age of sexual consent sa Pilipinas sa 16-anyos mula sa 12-anyos.

Sa kasalukuyang batas na ‘Anti-Rape Law of 1997’, maituturing lamang ang rape kung ang biktima ay 12-anyos pababa na pinakamababang age of consent sa buong mundo.

Sa kanyang video sa Twitter at Instagram, iginiit ni Soberano na panahon nang itaas ang age of consent bilang proteksiyon sa kabataan.

“Raising the age of statutory rape will drastically make it easier for these victims to seek and attain justice. We call on the Philippine Senate to resume the deliberation of the ‘End Child Rape’ bill now,” pahayag ni Soberano.

Sinabi pa ng aktres na batay sa mga datos mula sa women at children protection units, ang mga nasasangkot sa rape ay kadalasang kapitbahay, ama, kasintahan o tiyuhin ng biktima.

Si Soberano ay ambassador ng non-profit organization na Save the Children Philippines.

“We can do so much better than this,” pagbibigay-diin ni Soberano. “Please do it for the next generation of youth. We need to protect them at all costs. They are our future!”

Bukod sa Save the Children, nakikipagtulungan din si Soberano sa human rights group na Gabriela kaugnay sa laban kontra karahasan sa mga babae at bata.

Kasalukuyan pang nasa plenary deliberations ang ‘End Child Rape’ bill.
