58 DIED OF HAZING SINCE 1954 – REPORT
SINCE 1954, 58 hazing deaths have been recorded, according to a report.
A report from ABS-CBN Investigative and Research Group said that the figure was based on records of the Supreme Court, Senate, and the House of Representatives.
A student of the Adamson University, John Matthew Salilig, died after being paddled repeatedly during initiation rites in Cavite.
Salilig’s initiation was reportedly conducted by his peers from the Tau Gamma Philippines, the group that also have the highest number of recorded hazing-related deaths with 15.
This is followed by Alpha Phi Omega with six victims.
Schools with the most hazing-related deaths are the University of the Philippines, Philippine Military Academy and the Philippine National Police Academy.
