NURSES URGE COMELEC TO APPROVE PARTY-LIST BID

THE NURSES United Party-list on Monday held a rally outside the Commission on Elections office in a bid to press the electoral body to allow them to run for Congress.
The group filed its certificate of nomination and acceptance on October 7.
“Let nurses run for Congress so that the voice of nurses can be heard,” Maristela Abenojar, president of the Nurses United Party-list, said in a statement.
“Nurses and health workers are called heroes but we have not been valued. Our salaries remain low. It is disheartening that even our unpaid Covid-19 benefits did not prompt [health department] to allot funds for our Covid-19 benefits for the year 2022,” she added.
The group said that nurses make up 7 out of 10 healthcare workers in the country but the situation of 28,103 healthcare workers remain poorly managed as they are still overworked and underpaid.
If elected, the party-list said that it will prioritize the crafting of laws that will uplift the healthcare workers’ social, mental, economic, and physical conditions.
