MANILA Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso thumbed down the substitution of candidates, saying that politicians should not underestimate voters.

During his tour in Bataan, Domagoso said he will let voters “judge candidates and their motivations.”

“I will let the people decide. Hayaan natin ang taumbayan na magdesisyon. Kasi alam naman ng tao na chinuchubibo ang buhay nila,” he said.

“Do not underestimate ang kaisipan ng mga mamamayan. They know. They always know,” he added.

Rules on candidate substitution came to fore when Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio withdrew her Certificate of Candidacy for reelection. On Thursday, she took her oath as a member of Lakas-CMD party.

Political observers have speculated that this move will lead to a substitution that will make Sara run for a national post.

However, Domagoso said he is not concerned about the presidential daughter’s plans in politics.
