FAMILY MEMBERS TO BATTLE IN 2022 ELECTIONS
THE ELECTIONS next year will see family members battling for the same posts.
In Ilocos Sur, Mayor Luis “Chavit” Singson of Narvacan town will run against his son Ryan.
Chavit filed his Certificate of Candidacy for vice governor on October 1.
Ryan teamed up with his wife, Patch Savellano-Singson, who filed her COC on Friday for governor.
Patch will go against Chavit’s running mate and brother Jerry Singson, the incumbent vice governor.
“Kailangan ama ang masusunod, hindi ‘yung anak ang masusunod. Parang may sungay na ‘yung anak ko, so wala siyang magagawa,” Chavit, 80, said.
Ryan’s camp is under the ticket of a local political party called Bileg, while Chavit’s team will run under the banner of the National People’s Coalition.
Meanwhile, Chavit’s elder son Ronald will challenge Rep. Deogracias Victor Savellano, who will seek re-election as representative of the first district of Ilocos Sur.
In Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat, the battle will be between Mangudadatus.
Maguindanao 2nd District Rep. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu said that his wife, former beauty queen Sharifa Akeel-Mangudadatu, will run for governor in Sultan Kudarat.
Suharto “Teng” Mangudadatu, who is a cousin of Esmael, currently holds the post of governor.
Sharifa is challenging Suharto’s son Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu, the incumbent mayor of Datu Abdullah Sangki town.
“I want to try politics in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao for a change. Maybe it is now time to let my father, former Governor Pax Mangudadatu or my son, (Datu Abdullah Sangki) Mayor Pax Ali Mangudadatu, the governorship of Sultan Kudarat,” Suharto said.
Esmael was earlier named the candidate for governor of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party in Maguindanao where Mariam Sangki-Mangudadatu is running for reelection.
Mariam is the wife of Suharto. She defeated Esmael’s younger brother Freddie Mangudadatu in the 2019 gubernatorial race.
Esmael will run with former House Representative Bai Sandra Sema as his vice governor.
