XAVIER ATENEO PROFESSOR NAMED PH DELEGATE TO ASIA–EUROPE SCIENCE DIPLOMACY SUMMIT
AN ASSISTANT professor at Xavier University–Ateneo de Cagayan and deputy director of the Kinaadman University Research Office has been chosen as one of the Philippine delegates to a highly selective Asia–Europe training and youth summit on science and technology diplomacy organized by the Asia-Europe Foundation.
Paolo Araune was selected from more than 2,300 applicants across Asia and Europe, with organizers citing his professional track record, motivation, and capacity to contribute to a global network of young professionals working at the nexus of science, technology, and international relations.
“This experience reinforced the critical role of universities in shaping ethical, transparent, and inclusive science diplomacy,” Araune said.
“It is an honor to represent both Xavier Ateneo and the Philippines in a space where science, policy, and international cooperation converge,” he added.
The program ran in two phases, beginning with a seven-week online training that gathered around 100 emerging leaders for expert-led webinars and interactive workshops on science diplomacy, policy engagement, and cross-regional collaboration.
Only about 30 participants advanced to the on-site Asia–Europe Youth Summit on Science and Technology Diplomacy in Copenhagen, Denmark, which focused on dialogue and collaborative learning alongside the Second European Science Diplomacy Conference under the Danish EU Council Presidency.
Araune’s selection highlights Xavier Ateneo’s commitment to research excellence, global engagement, and leadership formation, in line with the university’s mission to contribute meaningfully to both national development and international dialogue, the school said in a statement.
